Honor Band Audition Results Are In!
Friday, March 12, 2010
On Saturday, March 6th, Honor Band auditions were held at Causey Middle School. The students performed two solo prepared pieces before a judge in a closed audition room. They then had to play scales and arpeggios from memory and finally, were given one minute to study a new piece before they performed it before a judge. The final results are in and the students did great!

The PPS band had 105 students make the Honor Band! Only 291 students were accepted overall which means that 36% of the students at the Mobile County Honor Band will be from Phillips!!! Causey Middle School had the 2nd highest number of students with a total of 58. In addition, most of the percussionists in the county who made Honor Band are from Phillips! (15 out of 24!!)

We also broke another record! Phillips has 9 students who are first chair in the county on their instrument.
1st chair flute: Leigh Hoitt
1st chair alto sax: Eric Wu
1st chair tenor sax: Joshua Alsup
1st chair bass clarinet: Danielle Alexander
1st chair Contra Bass Clarinet: Leticia Patton
1st chair snare: Matthew Fox
1st chair timpani: Carlos Wilson
1st chair trumpet: Obie Moultrie
1st chair tuba: Rejinald Causey

For 7 years in a row now, Phillips has had more students make the Mobile County Honor Band than any other school in the county. IF the students make Honor Band, there are 3 different bands they can qualify for: Red Band (the highest scoring students), the White Band, or the Blue Band. This year, our students will make up 37% of the Red Band. Our students make up 40% of the White Band and 32% of the Blue Band.
