Who is Mrs. Ransom? Wow.. A whole section about me! I am sure that this year will be a fun and exciting year for all of us! I am excited to meet each of you and learn your personalities! I am going to learn a lot of things about you all, but before we go down that path I want you all to know a little bit more about me. I grew up in Mobile and attended Orchard Elementary, Clark School of Math and Science, Leflore High School (Magnet program) and graduated from Tuskegee University with a B.S. in Biology. I received my Teacher's Certification from Drexel University based out of Pennsylvania. I am currently completing my Masters of Public Health from Walden University and will graduate in January 2010. I am a triplet which means I have an identical twin sister and a fraternal brother. We will learn how this happens when we study Genetics! I am very close to my siblings. I am married to my husband who is a Probation Officer for juveniles at Strickland Youth Center. We both love to work with children and inspire them to dream big and to work hard. I have two sons that I love dearly. My oldest son, Jayden, is seven years old and attends Collier Elementary. He loves to stay busy with baseball and video games. My youngest son, Bryce, is 21 months old. He will be two in October. He has a genetic disorder called Fragile X Syndrome that causes him to be developmentally delayed so I am passionate about advocating for him and his disability. We will learn how this genetic mutation (change) affects his nervous system. I love children and I expect them to respect themselves and anyone else around them. This will be my seventh year teaching middle school children and I enjoy it. I have taught 6th and 7th grade. This year you will learn Biology which means "the study of life". We will learn the characteristics of living things. You also will be able to dissect living things (organisms) ..LOTS OF FUN! Phillips is a wonderdful school with high expectations. I, too, have those same high expectations within my classroom. Parents, studies show that when a parent is involved in a student's education, it is the strongest indicator of student achievement. Let's work together and make this year one of the best years ever! I look forward to meeting each of you. Mrs. Ransom
